    EMC Corporation today announced version 4.2 of EMC Greenplum Database, bringing to the industry-leading platform for in-database analytics new levels of Big Data integration, database manageability and performance. That means customers can run massive-scale mission-critical analysis even more easily and rapidly, thus further boosting their analytic productivity, business value and business decision-making prowess. Sitting at the heart of the EMC Greenplum family of products, Greenplum Database 4.2 includes a high-performance gNet for Hadoop; language and compatibility enhancements for faster migrations to Greenplum; simpler, scalable backup with EMC Data Domain Boost; an extension framework and turnkey in-database analytics; and targeted performance optimization.

    In order to expand the range of solutions that can be created for data integration and processing and to run queries for mission-critical complex analysis, customers seek the most efficient and flexible data exchange between Greenplum Database and Hadoop, in addition to the existing parallel data access. To address this, Greenplum 4.2 now enables high-performance parallel import and export of all data (compressed and uncompressed) from Hadoop using gNet for Hadoop, a parallel communications transport. This achievement represents the industry's first direct query interoperability between Greenplum Database and Hadoop.

    A key new Greenplum Database feature is the advanced integration with EMC Data Domain deduplication storage systems via EMC Data Domain Boost, resulting in significantly faster (10 to 30x data reduction average), more efficient backup. This integration distributes parts of the deduplication process to Greenplum database servers, enabling them to send only unique data to the Data Domain system, thus dramatically increasing aggregate throughput, reducing the amount of data transferred over the network and eliminating the need to create and manage virtual drives (fast, inline deduplication with up to 26.3 TB/hour of throughput; backup over 173 TB in less than eight hours).

    Addressing database manageability and performance, Greenplum Database delivers an agile, extensible platform for in-database analytics, leveraging the system's massively parallel architecture.     Innotrac Shares Findings of Direct Response Operations Benchmarking

    ATLANTA, March 1, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Innotrac Corporation , a best-of-breed commerce provider integrating digital technology, fulfillment, and contact center solutions to support global brands, today announced summary results of a custom SmartHub(R) benchmark analysis, focused around direct response operations.

    SmartHub(R) is Innotrac's new proprietary benchmarking tool, providing clients and strategic partners with end-to-end intelligence and analysis of the online retail purchase cycle. From the pre-order site experience all the way through the final steps of the returns process, Innotrac's methodology analyzes each important customer touch point, charting merchants on everything from the expedience of confirmation emails, to evaluation of the packaging material used in shipment. Innotrac conducted a custom review of eleven top direct response merchants to compare with its sampling of top eCommerce retailers. Among the key findings of the study:

    --  The average shipping cost for DR orders was $11.33.
    --  Three out of the eleven DR orders shipped in 7 or more days , compared
    with only one in twenty shipments that took as long for eCommerce
    merchants in the Q4 2011 SmartHub(R) sample.
    --  Only one of the eleven DR marketers surveyed offered free shipping,
    whereas roughly two-thirds of those in the Q4 2011 SmartHub(R) sample

    The acquisition of Allrecipes.com places Meredith first in comScore's Food Community rankings, and more than doubles the audience for the Meredith Women's Network.     Labor Law and Security Experts Testify About Workers' Rights Violations at Loomis

    UNI Swedish Commission of Inquiry Holds Three Hearings in U.S.

    WASHINGTON, March 1, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Legal and security experts testified about workers' rights violations by Loomis, an armored car guard company, before a public hearing at the International Brotherhood of Teamsters. The hearing was held by UNI's Swedish Commission of Inquiry into the Labor Practices of Loomis.

    The commission, which is comprised of Swedish union leaders and legal experts, was organized by UNI, the global labor federation for services sector workers which is headquartered in Switzerland. Members of the commission traveled to the United States to investigate reports of workers' rights violations at Loomis US.

    Loomis US is a subsidiary of Swedish cash logistics corporation Loomis AB [STO:LOOMB]. Loomis armored car guards in California had union representation for the last 58 years, until the company unilaterally decided that it will not allow its California employees to continue to be represented by the Teamsters and is refusing to negotiate new contracts.

    Loomis subsequently cancelled its employees' retirement plan, changed to a substandard health care plan that costs workers up to $700 a month, and can now terminate employees without just cause. Older employees with years of experience can be replaced by younger, less expensive employees.

    Loomis guards were represented by Teamsters Local Union 150 in Sacramento; Teamsters Local Union 315 in San Mateo; Teamsters Local Union 396 in Los Angeles; Teamsters Local Union 439 in Stockton; Teamsters Local Union 542 in San Diego; and Teamsters Local Union 853 in San Jose.

    At the Friday, Feb. 24 hearing, Rome Aloise, Teamsters International Vice President, said, "Loomis armored car guards chose union representation 58 years ago, and their guards continue to make that choice to this day. Even though the right to bargain collectively is a fundamental human right, Loomis decided unilaterally to de-recognize their union. I am thankful to UNI for convening these hearings and to the Commission for investigating these violations of U.S. and international law."

    Wilma Liebman, former Chairman of the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB), testified that current case law in the U.S. improperly restricts the free choice of armored car guard to choose union representation.

    Lance Compa, Senior Lecturer of International & Comparative Labor at Cornell University, testified that Loomis is violating international law and International Labour Organization (ILO) conventions.

    Peter Bakvis, Director of the Washington Office of the International Trade Union Confederation/Global Unions, testified that Loomis is committing violations of internationally recognized workers' rights and added, "It is completely unacceptable for Loomis to walk away from its responsibilities when it is convenient."

    Armored car guard is one of the most dangerous jobs in America. Guards are regularly robbed and shot while delivering cash. Loomis reduced the number of employees on armored car teams from three to two and sometimes one, and no longer provides workers with guns or bulletproof vests.

    Jim McGuffey, an armored car and security expert, testified that Loomis front line employees continue to receive low wages and few benefits, and that once the economy begins to turn there will be a day of reckoning. "Reducing crews to one person is ludicrous and will only increase risk for Loomis guards, the public and customers," McGuffey said.

    On Wednesday of last week, the UNI Swedish Commission of Inquiry also held a hearing in Los Angeles. Ron Herrera, Secretary-Treasurer of Teamsters Local 396, testified about the devastation Loomis workers experience now that their job and retirement security has been taken from them, even though they put our lives on the line every day.

    Kent Wong, Director of the UCLA Labor Center, testified that Loomis' withdrawal of union recognition violates U.S. law, and also violates internationally-recognized labor standards established by the ILO, the United Nations and the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) multinational guidelines.

    Linda Delp, Director of the UCLA Labor Occupational Safety & Health Program, testified about the risks Loomis' practices pose to armored car guards' and the public's safety.

    Ball Aerospace Ships Microwave Imager for NASA's Global Precipitation Measurement Mission

    The GMI instrument will play an essential role in the worldwide measurement of precipitation and the Earth's environmental forecasting when it launches aboard the GPM space-borne Core Observatory in 2014. The GPM mission is a joint effort between NASA, the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) and other international partners.

    Ball Aerospace's role in the GPM program included the design, development and fabrication of the GMI. Roughly eight feet tall, the conical-scan microwave instrument is a powerhouse of radiometry. GMI is designed to improve on-orbit calibration and advanced space-borne radiometry by rotating at 32 revolutions per minute, using four very stable calibration points on each revolution to calibrate the data it has scanned. This allows for temporal sampling of rainfall accumulations as well as more frequent and higher quality data collection.

    GMI's design is based on successful microwave sensors built previously by Ball Aerospace including the Shuttle Radar Topography Mission (SRTM), Spaceborne Imaging Radar-C (SIR-C), GEOSAT Follow-On (GFO) and the Submillimeter Wave Astronomy Satellite (SWAS).

    In honoring Whirlpool Corporation, the EPA cited several key accomplishments, including:

    --  Introducing some of the industry's most energy-efficient refrigerators

    --  The Maytag brand Bravos XL top-load high-efficiency washing machine
    which offers industry-best cold wash cycle and PowerWash system to
    deliver the best cleaning while using up to 76 percent less water and 78
    percent less energy compared to pre-2004 traditional top-load washers.
    --  The KitchenAid brand sequential dual evaporator side-by-side
    refrigerator with the Preserva Food Care System that keeps food fresher
