    RESTON, Va., Feb. 1 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- comScore, Inc. , a leader in measuring the digital world, today released rankings of the top U.S. Internet properties based on the number of display ad impressions delivered. Display ads are defined as any rich media or static images that are served and loaded into a Web browser, but do not include video streams, text or paid search ad impressions. comScore reports the display ad impressions as "ad views," since the comScore technology records the ads as they are actually rendered on an Internet user's computer (as opposed to other technologies that only "spider" publisher sites for ads but are not able to record the actual delivery of all ads, especially behaviorally targeted ads, to the sites' visitors.)

    The data are obtained from comScore Ad Metrix, a new service that provides a detailed profile of online display ad views for advertisers and publishers. comScore Ad Metrix Publisher reports on the publisher sites where display ads are served, while comScore Ad Metrix Advertiser tracks the advertising activity identified by the online advertiser..

    Top Online Display Ad Publishers

    Yahoo! Sites ranked as the top display ad publisher property in November, with 18.8 percent of display ad views, followed by Fox Interactive (16.3 percent), Microsoft Sites (6.7 percent), Time Warner Network (5.8 percent) and Facebook.com (1.5 percent). Nearly half (49.1 percent) of all display ads seen by U.S. Internet users originate on only five properties, illustrating the concentration of advertising among a few properties.

    One dimension to understanding a site's ability to monetize its content is the number of display ads it serves. Of the top 20 ad publishers, Fox Interactive served the most display ads per user visit to its sites (47.5), a particularly high number that is a function of both site engagement and how many ads are displayed per page. Bebo (27.2), CBS Sports (22.6), Viacom Digital (20.6) and Yahoo! Sites (20.5) each served an average of more than 20 display ads per user visit.

    Sinclair Broadcast Group Purchases Non-Licensed Assets of KFXA-TV in Cedar Rapids, Iowa

    BALTIMORE, Feb. 1 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Sinclair Broadcast Group, Inc. , announced today that they have purchased the non-licensed assets of KFXA-TV (FOX 28) in Cedar Rapids, Iowa for $17.1 million in cash from Second Generation of Iowa, Ltd and obtained the right to purchase the licensed assets, pending FCC approval, for $1.9 million. Sinclair also owns KGAN-TV (CBS 2) in Cedar Rapids.

    "Today's acquisition is an important step in ensuring the continued viability of both stations in a small market," commented David Smith, President and CEO of Sinclair. "This step will allow us to continue the combination of certain operations of KFXA-TV and KGAN-TV allowing us to continue to recognize the economic efficiencies necessary to provide a small market with a meaningful local news presence, a service which we believe to be of the utmost importance to the community."

    Smith continued, "Our relationship with Second Generation has been a very positive one over the years, however, in today's world of increased competition for advertising dollars and fragmentation of audience viewing, it is more difficult to operate a full-scale television operation in a small market without the benefit of combined efficiencies. Although we believe that both parties have worked to manage the stations for the betterment of the Cedar Rapids marketplace, there is still more that can be done if we are permitted to acquire KFXA's license assets. Both parties, however, are limited as to what can be accomplished operating alone. The purchase of KFXA- TV's non-license assets and the eventual purchase of its license assets following FCC approval should allow us to make both stations operate more efficiently. We expect this to be an accretive acquisition."

LAUDERDALE, Fla., Feb. 1 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- The Spherion(R) Employee Confidence Index, a monthly gauge of overall worker confidence, dropped for the sixth consecutive month, falling 3.4 points to 48.6 in January. The Index declined to its lowest level since the survey started in July 2004 and is 11.5 points lower than the level recorded a year ago. The survey, conducted by Harris Interactive(R) on behalf of Spherion Corporation , reveals that just 16 percent of workers believe there are more jobs available and nine percent of workers believe the economy is getting stronger, both declining three percentage points from December.

    Despite the drop in overall confidence, the majority of workers remain confident in their personal employment situation. The percentage of workers who are confident in the future of their current employer is virtually unchanged, declining just one percentage point to 63 percent in January, and 52 percent are confident in their ability to find a new job. In addition, seventy-seven percent feel they are unlikely to lose their job in the next 12 months, a slight decrease of one percentage point from December.

    The survey also indicated that more workers planned to make a job change, with 38 percent saying they are likely to look for a new job in the next year, an increase of six percentage points since December.

    "Clearly, the confidence of the U.S. workforce has been shaken by the recent evidence of an economic slowdown and sluggish job growth over the past few months," said Roy Krause, president and chief executive officer of Spherion Corporation.     This January 2008 Spherion Employment Tracker was conducted online within the United States by Harris Interactive on behalf of Spherion Corporation between January 7-9 and 16-18, 2008 among a U.S. sample of 3,137 employed adults, aged 18 years and older (December 2007 n=2,827). Results were weighted as needed for age, sex, race/ethnicity, income, education and region. Propensity score weighting was also used to adjust for respondents' propensity to be online.

    All sample surveys and polls, whether or not they use probability sampling, are subject to multiple sources of error which are most often not possible to quantify or estimate, including sampling error, coverage error, error associated with nonresponse, error associated with question wording and response options, and post-survey weighting and adjustments. Therefore, Harris Interactive avoids the words "margin of error" as they are misleading. All that can be calculated are different possible sampling errors with different probabilities for pure, unweighted, random samples with 100% response rates.

    These are only theoretical because no published polls come close to this ideal.

    CTC Media Signs Definitive Share Purchase Agreement to Acquire a Participation Interest in Channel 31 Group

    MOSCOW, Feb. 1 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- CTC Media, Inc. , Russia's leading independent television broadcaster, announced today that it has signed a definitive share purchase agreement to acquire a 20% participation interest in Channel 31 and majority ownership positions in affiliate companies that will provide the advertising sales function and programming content for Channel 31. Subject to the receipt of applicable regulatory approvals, CTC Media expects the transaction to close in the first quarter of 2008 and to commence broadcasting in the CTC format on Channel 31 later in the same quarter.

    As a result of the acquisition, CTC Media will obtain 60% of the economic interest of the Channel 31 Group which will enable CTC Media to consolidate the financial statements of Channel 31 Group with its own.

    U. S. Steel Proposes Capital Investment Program at Minnesota Ore Operations' Keetac Facility

    PITTSBURGH, Feb. 1 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- United States Steel Corporation announced today that it is developing a capital investment program in excess of $300 million for its Minnesota Ore Operations' Keetac facility in Keewatin, Minn. The program would increase production, enhance overall environmental performance, support the long-term viability of its Minnesota Ore Operations, and create 75 full-time and 500 temporary construction jobs. The program would take an estimated 36 months after the permitting process to complete and would modernize and improve a pellet production line that has been idle since 1980.

    The restart would involve energy-efficient technologies in addition to new emission controls to exceed current environmental standards. The expansion would increase Keetac's iron pellet production output by 3.6 million tons to a total annual output of 9.6 million tons. Upgrades to the mining, concentrating and agglomerating processes would support the increased production requirements. The program includes the purchase of additional mining equipment and the installation of additional processing equipment.

    U. S. Steel, working with agencies and the appropriate stakeholders, expects to file for environmental permits later this year.

    EMBARQ Awarded Multi-Year Inmate Telephone Contract by Nevada Department of Corrections

    TI CEO tells UTD engineering students: 'Your skills are desperately needed'Rich Templeton says electronics innovation will solve the world's most critical problems

    DALLAS, Feb. 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Texas Instruments Incorporated (TI) CEO and president, Rich Templeton, challenged engineering students to take on "the problems that matter." Speaking Thursday evening to a group of students and faculty at the TI Foundation Auditorium at the University of Texas -- Dallas School of Engineering, Templeton laid out some of the key problems facing the world today. "Think about health care, power efficiency, public safety and the need for infrastructure in developing regions," he said. "These issues touch billions of people and they impact every corner of the world."

    Templeton described the potential impact technology could have on making health care more accessible, lowering power needs, improving automotive safety, and bringing cellular phones to rural India and China. "These are all real and immediate challenges," he said, "and the solutions aren't going to come out of boardrooms or summit meetings. They're going to come from people like you, creative engineers who want to make a difference. You and your skills are desperately needed in the world."

    Templeton's remarks capped a day-long visit at the school, where he met with UTD engineering students and faculty to talk about their studies, their research programs, and opportunities for TI and UTD to work more closely together. A vocal champion of engineering as a foundation for solving problems, Templeton has visited six universities around the world over the past 18 months, encouraging young innovators to use technology to make a difference. His visit to UTD follows similar trips to the Indian Institute of Science in Bangalore and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Especially in the U.S., where studies have reported that only half of engineering students complete their engineering degrees, Templeton's goal is get students excited about the impact they can make on the world and encourage them to pursue engineering as a profession.

    TI and UTD have enjoyed a long relationship, as TI founders Eugene McDermott, Cecil Green and Erik Jonsson helped establish UTD in 1969 with the goal of building a vibrant intellectual and creative community in Dallas.
